Man Utd v Lille Preview

Tonight’s Champions League match between Man United and Lille takes place amid continued controversy regarding the freekick Ryan Giggs scored in the first leg.

Fergie says :-

“They have virtually accused us of cheating by taking a quick free-kick but the bottom line is that Ryan Giggs showed great presence of mind while their team were caught napping - and that’s not cheating.”

I think United will be more concerned about a small but growing injury crisis; maybe not for this match but for the rest of the season. With Larsson set to play his last game and both Solskjaer and Saha injured, only Rooney will be fit for the time being. A Carragher knee-knacked Rooney that is. Can Rossi be recalled from his loan?

This game should be comfortable for United so, of course, they will probably make a meal of it. Lille are a defensive side and will be forced to attack at some point in the game. It will get nervous if it is still 0-0 with about 15 minutes to go as Lille are capable of snatching one.

Prediction: 2-0. Larsson in his final game and Ronaldo. Rooney to continue his Champs League scoring drought but play well.

In the other games featuring British sides, Celtic will struggle despite getting a 0-0 against AC Milan, whilst I expect Arsenal will turn it around against PSV but I don’t expect them to progress much further.
