Tonight’s game could have been the decider, but Chelsea drifted off course in the space of a week where they drew to Bolton and Arsenal whereas United beat Everton and City.

So, this is a meaningless fixture and will probably be two sets of reserves playing. Who cares about the result? No one really, but it would still be good to get a result and to watch Chelsea players give Keiran Richardson and John O’Shea a guard of honour.
