My advice is to stop this video after 2 minutes.

Classic FA Cup Finals 2 : United 1 Liverpool 0

Oh look, beating Liverpool again :)

This is the one where Cantona comes back from his kung-fu exile and wins us the double with a bunch of kids that some Liverpool bloke thought would win nothing. Ah, doesn’t get much better than that.

Classic FA Cup Finals :1 : United 2 Liverpool 1

30 years ago, I don’t remember this, but this was United stopping the machine that was the 70’s Liverpool. United stopped Liverpool doing the treble and paved the way for the glory that was 1999.

FA Cup Final Preview

The Quadruple is still on!

No, dear Chelsea fans, you can’t win it. All you’ve got so far this season is the Rumbelows Cup. You haven’t won the league or the Champions League (ever). No it is the Quadruple Double, I’m talking about. People sometimes forget that when we won the Treble it was also the Treble Double.

Mathematical Cup winning nonsense aside, I just hope it is a better game than two years ago when Arsenal played so un-Arsenal like, defended so well and won the cup on penalties. A 4-0 like 1994 wouldn’t go amiss.

My personal favourite football competition. I have memories going back to 1978 of watching the final with my dad. I wanted to support the Red team because of United, but that was actually Arsenal so my Dad made me go and ask my mum for a blue cup so we could support Ipswich. And the less remembered about 1979 the better, but I remember still being on the floor celebrating the equaliser when Alan Sunderland was making the match 3-2.

More recently, the 1996 final stands out as I was with friends in a house of Liverpool supporters. We’d made a United stand and a Liverpool stand. I think what makes it so memorable was the way it was won. Cantona, in the last minute, and the place went wild.

New Wembley between the two teams in English football. It makes for an exciting game. My heart is going for a 2-1 win for the reds, but my head cannot call this. Hopefully, Chelsea will come out in dreadfull suits ala Liverpool in 1996 and Drogba will strain his neck practising his diving and will win 4-0.

How the title was won

I rather like this graphic on the BBC website showing how the title was won. It shows how we never let Chelsea get ahead of United (except for a small time after we lost at home to Arsenal) and how Chelsea chased and chased but couldn’t close the gap.

I remember Mourinho stating at some point in December or January that they we happy because they were only 6 points behind and United had dropped points and it should have been a lot more. However, the reality was that United had learnt that to win the league now, you have to win from the start, get in front and it is very hard to catch up. United learnt that lesson from Chelsea.

In the past, teams had wilted in the chase (Newcastle being the number one example) and neither Chelsea or United did that. True champions.
