Perhaps the best there should have been

Gascoigne? Pah. Robson? Do us a favour. Moore? Whatever. Charlton? Not interested. Palmer? Talk to the hand. The tragically late, truly great, and frighteningly hard Duncan Edwards might have been the greatest English footballer of all.

I never saw him (Edwards) but the praise being given by the likes of
Bobby Charlton
make me believe..
As far as left back is concerned. I liked Evra’s speed and crossing and I know Heinze is cavalier but he often left holes at the back.
Maybe there is A.N.Other yet.
PS – bring back Neville ………. (Philip, I mean. Or, is he too old now???? (I know it won’t happen))
