Ferguson has transfer success
It seems possible that United have signed Tevez (as discussed here) and whether it is true or not is still open to debate.
One thing that is true is the following quote from Times Online
Even Chelsea have had no answer to the speed and extravagance with which United have gone about their business this summer.
Have United finally learnt how to do transfers? Peter Kenyon was not only an arse but was terrible at negotiating transfers. We consistently overpaid for players (Rio) or missed out through (Ronaldinhio) or spent so long sorting out the transfer that it was too late. (Hargreaves).
This summer United have done exactly what they said they were going to do last season and have actually done some excellent deals and got who they wanted early and for relatively reasonable transfer frees.
Of our rivals only Arsenal do well in transfers and credit must go to Arsene Wenger here. He does know how to get a player to sign. Liverpool stumble and falter as always and now they have some money and doing the “overpaying for average players” trick. My Man In Spain thinks Torrez is completely overrated when I asked about him. Chelsea, of course, have so much money that all Kenyon’s faults can be ignored. They overspend on players by so much, but don’t care a jot. However, this summer all they have so far is free transfers and have underwhelmed in the transfer market. Expect one desperate overpaid star to join later on before the transfer window closes.
So, let us congratulate United, Ferguson and Gill for having a successful transfer summer, whether or not Tevez signs.
