10 things to look forward to this season

The new season is just round the corner and I’m sure you are all excited about it. Defending champions, exciting new players, old heads squeezing another fantastic season out of old legs. But, what can we look forward to this season?

  1. The first kickoff. 4pm Sunday 12th August Reading at home. Just sit back now and imagine the bright green pitch, the red shirts, perhaps Rooney touching the ball to Tevez to kick of the defence. There is an anticipation of good things. But at that moment there is a pause, the crowd goes silent through an involuntary intake of breath as football starts again.
  2. The first United goal of the season. Ok, Giggs put one away in the Community Shield, but it doesn’t really count. Who will score it, how long will it take before we score. Will it by an equaliser or a last minute winner. There will still be a buzz when it goes in.
  3. The debut of Tevez. Long in signing, short in stature, the Argentinian is going to start a United game pretty soon and I can’t wait for it.
  4. Fergie v Keano. When Sunderland play at Old Trafford on September 1st, Roy Keane will face up to his former mentor and manager. So far, Keano has been fairly quiet as a manager, but what will happen when they first met as managers?
  5. The Old Trafford crowd signing Champions.
  6. The inevitable ABU backlash. I didn’t like the fact that the neutrals want us to win very much. Sure, everyone hates Chelsea, but it was mainly because we hadn’t won the league for 4 years. I will give a nice chuckle to every Liverpool fan who wants Chelsea to win the league this time round.
  7. Ryan Giggs in full flow. A pure footballing moment as he runs gracefully with the ball. Make the most of it as surely there cannot be many seasons left. His legs should last the whole season this as Fergie will give him plenty of rest games when Nani plays.
  8. Playing Arsenal without Henry. Playing Chelsea and Terry scoring an own goal. Playing Liverpool and Darren Fletcher scoring. Who knows exactly what will happen, but I can’t wait to see it (even if the big games never quite live up to expectations).
  9. Arguing and discussing in the pub, at work, on the forums and in blog posts for another nine months will real football to talk about instead of having to resort to pointless tabloid rumours.
  10. Attacking football, scoring one more, great European nights, cold February scruffy 1-0 wins. Just watching Manchester United play.

You are right on with your top 10 list! Personally I am just waiting for that first massive crowd roar as the Champions hit the pitch. I always get goosebumps when I hear the crowd roar. That, and the first appearance of my footballing hero, Wayne Rooney. I have my jersey on the way from the U.K. so I can wear it while I watch the game on TV. I live all the way in the United States and I am so glad that Fox Soccer Channel is going to show the game live.
… Lastly (and this is just me) I am excited to see the kick-off because…This Sunday…is my 27th birthday so it is the perfect way to spend the day.

Well Steve, Happy Birthday for Sunday. Let’s hope you get a nice present from Old Trafford – the right result.

Are you getting a shirt with Rooney’s new number on it ?

    Brilliant post Paul.
Let’s just have the normal exciting ATTACKING football we are all used to and happy with. The line ups look like that will be the case. Hm! No 4. Sunderland 1st September Eh!! That could be a tricky one to catch. Let’s hope the pub has it on and there will be one very newly married supporter who is able to watch it backed up by guests ranging in age from 5 to 61.
By the way the back of the new shirt is most confusing. It took a while for me to realise it is a stripe. I saw a shirt the other day with no name or number on and it looked strange. Still, I suppose they want you to add a name ane number when you buy one.

Nope. I will eventually I am sure but my friend found an old Vodafone jersey with Rooney’s name and number 8 on it. I have always been a giant fan of the Vodafone jersey since that was the shirt he had when he first came in (and I always thought the design was a lot better than just some 3 letters in a box) so that is the one I bought.

Ah, I still have my vodafone shirt too :)

Not replaced yet. Reminds me of the Beckham, Van Nistelrooy championship winning season.
