United On Fire

I watched the run out against Glentoran on Sky last night which turned out to be an easy win for a team which was mainly our first choice defense and our reserve midfield and strikeforce.  Whilst Rooney and Giggs were up in Scotland, I got my first chance to see Nani and Anderson in action.

Some things I noticed about the game which was played at a stroll.

1. Anderson played quite centrally, possibly he is seen as the long term replacement for Scholes.  But it was sort of a Veron like performance.  I’m not sure how he will fit into the first team lineup.
2. The youngsters that played, Lee Martin, Danny Simpson and Frazier Campbell all did well.  Martin looks quick and looked more able a backup than Keiron Richardson was.  Simpson did well at rightback and should we experience severe injuries in defence (such as Neville and Brown out) could get some first team games.  Campbell scored a good goal but I can’t see him getting any where near the 1st team this season.
3. Nani looks like Ronaldo did 3 years ago.  Let’s hope that in 3 years he’ll look like the Ronaldo of now.  He played right side in this game, and scored a lovely goal.
4. Glentoran clearly enjoyed their night.  They made 9 changes at half time so that all their players could say they had played against United.  Even some guy who was clearly injuried came on for the last 5 minutes.
5. After Nani scored, he did one of his back flips.  What, did he really think Fergie wouldn’t get to see? Queiroz was seen to make a note of something on a piece of paper straight after the goal.  Maybe a reminder to get Lee Sharpe to give Nani a call and explain all about Fergie and celebrations.
6. It was weird to see updates from another match coming up on the Sky Sports ticker and it being the same team!  Eagles, Giggs and a double from Rooney meant they won 4-0 against Dunfermline with Paul Scholes making an appearance and maybe he will play against Reading on Sunday.
