Review: Man United 1 Sunderland 0
Louis Saha came back from injury and scored the winner as a less than effective United eventually broke down a resolute Sunderland by using an actual striker for a change.
Whilst we were playing a sort of legends team, and another legend was said goodbye to, the current team toiled in a first half. New signing Anderson finally got his debut and probably wished that he’d been on the bench as he really struggled. If it was obvious to every fan and his dog, it didn’t take a genius to work out that to change things round Fergie would have to bring on and risk Saha for the 2nd half.
Thankfully, Fergie didn’t get where he is today by not making important and correct decisions and Anderson was removed and instantly the change was obvious. Within moments of the restart, Saha was in past the opposition defence and shooting at goal.
With the Sunderland defence stretched, United played much better second half and created some chances, Gordon making a number of good saves, proving that he should be a good buy for Roy Keane.
Unfortunately for the Scottish keeper, he made a costly mistake reminiscent of a certain Jim Leighton. He was not able to deal with an inswinging corner close to him, coming for it when there were two Sunderland players in the way. Saha was able to head the ball in from close range, proving that we desperately need to keep him fit this season to have any chance of the title.
