No Blues for Ronaldo

When, oh when will this “dreadful” run of wins without conceding a goal end ? It seems commentators on Manchester United fall into two camps on our current performances
- It is the mark of a true championship winning team to win when playing badly.
- The shockingly poor performances will only mean United will not win the league this season
All I will say is that United can’t possibly continue to grind out 1-0 wins (the result against Chelsea being 2-0 should be overlooked given that it was a a last minute disputable penalty and Chelsea was the easiest game of the season so far). Either United will meet a team that can beat us, or we will absolutely hammer someone 5-0 like an earthquake finally releasing the tension.
The win on Saturday was down to determination, resolute defending, two excellent goalkeepers, a Birmingham defenders mistake and a composed finish from Christiano Ronaldo.
Despite Queudrue making the mistake in allowing Ronaldo to steal the ball off him in his own penalty area, the United forward still had some work to do in going past the keeper and keeping enough control on the ball to stick it into the net at high speed. It was his 2nd goal of the season and the signs are that he is coming into real form.
Birmingham played really well and without that mistake could have earned a 0-0 as they did against Liverpool. Luckily for United Fergie didn’t rotate Ronaldo like Benitez did with Torrez. Fergie is sticking with Rooney and Tevez and leaving Saha on the bench, hoping that match time together will give them a partership. It certainly looks like it might be starting to come as they put a really incisive move together that nearly got a goal.
Defensively, United had their goalkeepers to thank for a clean sheet rather than excellent defending. Three times in the first half Van der Saar made key saves and when he limped off injured (out for the Champs League game) his replacement, Tomasz Kuszczak made a top class save as Ferdinand deflected a shot towards the net and Kuszczak made a fine reaction save.

United need to have more goals.Yes United does have a healthy goal difference but thats all due to the 1-0 victories.Best of United for Roma match.I think we will see more goals from that one.

It is true that United need to score more goals and play better. However, Birmingham City away was never likely to be the game where that started to happen.
I’ll have a look at the upcoming fixtures in the league to see when that might happen. It would be nice if we could play Derby at home soon

I hope to see more goals in the Roma game though 7-1 will not happen again. Then again Portsmouth won 7-4 which was like a game from the 50s. A Busby Babes sort of game.

More a Best, Charlton, Law era I wonder. I must check the records, but I seem to remember many a 4-3 win. More exciting than 1-0 but not really different. (Still Busby though)

I was thinking specifically of the 5-4 game where they beat Arsenal, the last game before Munich. But I expect that Best,Law and Charlton team produced many equally high scoring games
