Interview with Fulham fan
Rob Griffin, running Fulham blog Following the Fulham has interviewed me in the run up to the Monday night game. You can find the interview with myself and fellow United fan Stuart Parish at http://followingthefulham.blogspot.com/2007/11/interview-manchester-united-fans.html
In return, Rob agreed to a return interview. Thank you very much for your time.
How are do you think your season has been so far?
Disappointing…
Who have been the stars for you so far?
Worryingly, our goalkeeper Antti Niemi and left back Paul Konchesky have been outstanding – which tells you everything you need to know about our season – along with Simon Davies in midfield. David Healy has also proved his worth even though he struggles to get in the starting line-up.
Anyone you’re disappointed with?
Chris Baird had a very rocky start at right back but has started to settle down. Diomansy Kamara has failed to live up to expectations so far and I think it’s fair to say that we haven’t seen the best of Seol Ki-Hyeon yet…at least I hope we haven’t.
What is your view of Lawrie Sanchez?
The jury is still out. Only two wins all season is not great. Our midfield keeps getting over-run and he insists on leaving an international striker (Healy) on the bench while skilful midfielder Alexey Smertin barely gets in the squad. This is his squad and we’re the best part of four months into the season so he really should have a better grip on things.
Is there anything about your team/its tactics you’d change?
Yeah, I’d set an alarm clock on the 80 minute mark to wake the defenders up as the amount of times we’ve thrown games away with minutes to go is ridiculous. I actually think we have the makings of a pretty useful side but it’s just turning those decent performances into wins.
What’s your view on Man Utd this year?
You look superb – apart from the odd glitch along the way.
Any of our players you’re wary of?
Any of the 11 on the pitch frankly! Cristiano Ronaldo is pure class, but then you’ve got Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, etc, etc.
What’s your view of Fulham old boys Van der Sar and Saha?
Edwin can always be assured of a great reception. He was fantastic to us – right up until he left – and will always have our utmost respect and best wishes. Saha, on the other hand, upset a lot of people with the manner of his departure which is why his reception is rather cooler.
Where do you think we’ll end up?
Champions of both England and Europe. I’m so confident I may even have a little bet.
Who will be relegated?
Derby, Bolton and Birmingham…I just hope it’s not us. We came very close last season and I certainly don’t want a repeat this time round.
What will the score be on Monday night?
3-1 to you sadly… Even that will be better than last season of course.
