Living “‘darn ’sarf” as Harry Rednapp would say is no bed of roses for a Manchester United fan. I don’t get to see United very much; although that is more to do with my self imposed exile from Old Trafford as I don’t want to give the Glazers a single one of my pennies.
But I currently live in Reading. There is only one good thing about Reading, and that is they have a Premier League team. So this Saturday, I’ll get to see United again.
And due to the magic of the internet and my mobile phone, I’ll be blogging live from the game. In theory. If it works. On the right, you’ll see a red (or pink) box, saying “what am I doing?” powered by Twitter. I can send updates to this by texting from my mobile phone. During the game, I’ll provide updates on what is happening from a fan’s point of view, right from the ground. You can follow it directly at http://twitter.com/UnitedOnFire, or subscribe to the RSS feed in your favourite Feed Reader at http://twitter.com/statuses/user_timeline/10246232.atom
After the game, I’ll collate all the messages into something a little more useful as part of my review of the game. It’s a bit of an experiment, and I’d love to see United fans who do goto OT try it as well.
I saw United twice at Reading last season, once in the league and once in the FA Cup. At the first game, I told my son to keep very quiet as we were in the home section, but he still cheered when Ronaldo scored. However so did half the stand around me, so it wasn’t too bad. As an aside, I took my son to a Reading game before the United game and the first thing he said was “Which one’s Rooney?”. It was also interesting to see that coming into the ground were a large number of kids, home supporters I presume, with red Rooney England shirts on. Some sort of compromise going on there with the parents I guess.

Count me for following your twitter updates. Hopefully I’ll be at the Radcliffe v. FC – if the pitch isn’t waterlogged, so I’ll tune the mobile phone in and give it a whirl.
