United on Fire is a blog about Manchester United football club, written by a 35 year old United fan born in Manchester and raised in a family of United fans. Paul’s son, George can’t decide whether to have Rooney or Ronaldo on the back of his shirt. Naming a son after an alcoholic would normally be frowned upon, but somehow when it is George Best the rules are changed.
Paul also had a cat called Giggsy but the player’s career outlasted the cat. You might think Paul has a penchant for left wing genius, but his favourite players wore number 7. The first side that could be called his own was the Ron Atkinson built team of the 80’s; Coppell, Wilkins, Whiteside, Strachen and Hughes, but it was Bryan Robson that was the drive and passion of that side; Captain Fantastic. Later it was the French genius that was Eric Cantona. When Paul gets a dog, he is going to be called Eric.
Paul was at Oxford United to see Sir Alex Ferguson’s first game in charge and wasn’t too impressed by the 2-0 defeat. Later results have proved that Ferguson knows what he is doing and Paul reckons Fergie might have a future as United manager.
This blog follows each game United plays with previews and reports of each game. In addition, it offers articles and opinion and United and their opponents. Paul hopes that you enjoy reading it and will come back again soon.
